I’m Abhilash John Philip. I build products that sit where technical systems meet commercial outcomes: how software is metered, priced, billed and taxed. Right now I’m at Salesforce, building enterprise usage management in Revenue Cloud, with a focus on usage pooling and governance.

Before that I was at Chargebee, first leading invoicing and taxation for subscriptions, then leading the usage-based billing platform: event ingestion, aggregation, rating and invoicing, including rate cards for AI infrastructure companies. Earlier I grew PayU’s partner ecosystem through APIs and developer experience, worked on the consumer app at Housing.com, and built catalogue, supply chain and GST systems at Industrybuying.

I like building things end to end. I co-founded Hedcet in college, an IT services and product company that was later acqui-hired. I tried to make air purifiers affordable with Saafair, and I wrote about why we shut it down. Today I run LookupTax, which validates tax IDs for 100+ countries, and UsagePricing, a knowledge base on how 400+ usage-based companies price. I write most of my pricing essays there; a selection is on the Writing page.

The question I keep coming back to is how software gets priced as it moves from seats to usage to outcomes to autonomous agents. This site is where I write up what I try along the way.
